The Mittelstand 4.0-Kompetenzzentrum Siegen supports small and medium-sized companies in South Westphalia, the Ruhr area and beyond in mastering the challenge of digitization in a dialog between social partners. The focus is always on the employees. The team shows small and medium-sized companies various assistance systems and possibilities of new, digital technology, among other things. It also makes concrete proposals for solutions for small and medium-sized companies when it comes to employee-friendly IT systems and concepts for digitization projects. The success of the first funding phase can be explained in particular by the good cooperation between the University of Siegen and the partner organizations – University of Applied Sciences Südwestfalen, Ruhr University Bochum, Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology (FIT). Within the framework of the second funding phase, all those formats that have met with a positive response from the companies are to be consistently continued and expanded. In addition, new challenges in medium-sized companies will be addressed, which, for example, require a greater use of artificial intelligence. Furthermore, we have decided to approach small and medium-sized craft businesses even more intensively than in the first funding phase. These companies have different organizational structures and process routines that need to be actively supported with tailored digitization support measures. All in all, we are convinced that we will be able to build on and complement the successes achieved to date by the Mittelstand 4.0-Kompetenzzentrum Siegen in the second funding phase in order to achieve a sustained increase in the level of digitization among companies in the region.
