ECIS @ Kristiansand in Norway

From June 13 to 16, the 31st European Conference on Information Systems took place in Kristiansand at the University of Agder under the slogan Co-creating Sustainable Digital Futures. Louisa Sauter was able to place two papers at the conference. Both of them dealt with the use of VR technologies in medium-sized companies. The paper “It’s Tool Time: Exploring Tool Design Alternatives for Virtual Reality Trainings” dealt with the question of whether trade-offs in virtual tool representation in terms of dimensionality (2D vs. 3D) and enrichment with feedback forms have a negative impact on user experience and content transfer. It could be shown which criteria can be used to guide tool representation in VR training scenarios in order to reduce the development effort and thus make VR applications more accessible for use in SMEs. The second paper dealt with the supporting use of VR technologies in the CAD process. The research addressed the potential perception of VR technology as a hybrid work interruption and came to the conclusion that VR use interrupts CAD work on the one hand, but on the other hand offers enhanced perspectives that support designers through its opportunities for evaluating CAD design. The research highlighted specific conditions under which the use of VR technology in the CAD process is potentially perceived as less disruptive.

Overall, Louisa Sauter can look back on a wonderful few days in Norway coupled with many opportunities for research-related exchange.
