From 4th to 7th September 2022, almost 600 participants from science and industry met at the Technical University of Darmstadt at the “Mensch und Computer” (MuC) conference under the motto “Facing Realities”. Fortunately, after the pandemic-related online-only event in 2021, this year’s conference was again able to welcome its participants “live, in color, physically, i.e., for real” in Darmstadt.
We would like to introduce Abirami Basanth: She will be supporting the RegioQuest project as a UX Research Assistant from the first of August. Born in India, Abirami graduated in 2021 from PES University in Bangalore with a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Product Design. For a year, Abirami worked in this field in Qatar before moving to Siegen this year to start the HCI master’s program. We are looking forward to working with her and welcome her as a new employee.
Our tech team is growing even bigger with the addition of Anshul K Shaji. Starting from the 15th of June he will help us with implementation tasks for our projects. Anshul studied Information Technology at the CHRIST University in India, before moving to Siegen for his master’s in HCI (Human Computer Interaction). With Anshul’s diverse skills and expertise, the CPS is thrilled to have him on board.
Since the beginning of June, our projects are supported on a technical level by our two new research assistants Dorothee Brohl and Johann Schmitt. Dorothee studied cognitive computer science in Bielefeld for her bachelor’s degree and now attends the University of Mainz for her master’s degree in bioinformatics. Johann graduated in Human-Computer-Systems at the University of Würzburg and already worked on VR applications for the German Museum in Munich before coming to Siegen to get his Master in HCI. We are very happy to welcome both of them to our team.
Cheerful news again for our research group: the full paper “Reflection on the Octalysis framework as a design and evaluation tool” by Philip Weber, Laura Grönewald and Thomas Ludwig was presented by Philip Weber at the 6th GamiFIN conference (April 26-29).
The Rendezfood project, which began in April 2019, has now come to an end after three successful years. On March 30, 2022, the last consortium meeting took place, where our group had a final exchange with the project partners netzfactor GmbH and Vorländer Mediengruppe. After a live interactive demo of the Rendezfood system, which allows users to get to know dishes on a personal level with the help of a mobile application, insights into the field research conducted to evaluate the developed applications were presented.
On April 8, Prof. Dr. Andreas Pinkwart, NRW Minister for Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalization and Energy, learned about our RegioQuest project. The project is about bringing young people into contact with apprenticeships in a playful way.
RegioQuest consists of an app and a platform. On the platform, companies store information about themselves and their training positions. The app and platform are linked to each other. When students call up the app, riddles known as quests pop up at various locations as they walk through the city. By solving the puzzles, they collect points that they can then redeem in stores in South Westphalia.
The Ministry of Economics is funding the project through the European Social Fund and the REACT-EU initiative. and the REACT-EU initiative. It will initially be tested in Olpe. However, all of South Westphalia is to benefit from the findings.
We are happy to welcome Lukas Schröder to the CPS. After writing his Bachelor’s thesis with Prof. Dr. Thomas Ludwig and thus completing his business informatics studies, he started the Master’s program “Human Computer Interaction” at the beginning of 2021. From April 15th 2022, Lukas will support us with empirical work, conception, and implementation of our new research projects.
On April 6, the event “Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence – A Look at the Companies” organized by the Zukunftszentrum KI NRW took place at the Märkischer Arbeitgeberverband e.V. in Iserlohn. Prof. Dr. Thomas Ludwig held the keynote speech there, where he used illustrative examples to clarify what artificial intelligence is, how it is currently being used by industrial companies, and what opportunities it can create. In addition to Prof. Dr. Thomas Ludwig, there were further presentations with practical examples from Risse+Wilke Kaltband GmbH & Co.KG, DURABLE Hunke & Jochheim GmbH & Co.KG, IBG Automation GmbH, VETTER Krantechnik GmbH.
